We consider your privacy to be extremely important. In compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), this Privacy Policy and our Terms and Conditions and any other documents that we refer to, set out what data you provide to us and what we do with that data. The data you provide to us belongs to you and at any time you can delete tree related data (by deleting a tree that you have created) or all of your data by deleting your account. If you ask us to delete your account we will schedule it for deletion after 30 days and if you have not logged back in to your account the account and all associated data will be deleted.

You can use our site without signing up and creating an account. However any data you provide to us, such as a GEDCOM file as well as any data you may manually enter, will automatically be permanently deleted when you end your session, usually this is done by closing the browser you are working on.

We use the following types of cookies:

  • Session cookies

Session cookies are temporary cookies which only exist during the time you use the website (or more strictly, until you close the browser after using the website). Session cookies are essential for you to be able to experience the full functionality of our site. Without them, some parts of our site won’t work as they should. For example, these cookies allow you to remain logged in to your account, and help our website remember what you entered on a previous page, avoiding the need to re-enter information and allowing you to edit your trees over several pages.   • Log Files

Your use of generates entries in anonymous log files which record information about your visit to our site. Log files help administrators to understand problems and make improvements. They can analyse trends, administer the site, track movement around the site, and gather aggregated demographics. This is a standard procedure for website administrators, hosting companies, and analytics services. We use Google Analytics to manage this process in The information in the log files may include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date/time stamps, referring and exit pages, and possibly click history. The information we collect is not linked to any information that is personally identifiable.

Information we collect from you

There are only three ways in which you provide us with information:

  • When you create an account we ask for your Name, Email Address and you create a password,
  • When you upload a GEDCOM file as part of the tree creation process,
  • When you manually add or amend data on your tree,
  • Anonymised aggregated site usage data.

How we use your information

We use your information:

  • To create an account,
  • To help you administer your account e.g. to reset a lost password,
  • To send you information via an opt in email list, which you can opt out of at any time,
  • To carry out our obligations to you which arise from any contract entered into between you and us,
  • To provide you with information, updates, products or services that you may have requested from us,
  • To provide support and documentation to you for any purchases that you may have made,
  • To let you know about any changes to our service,

We use anonymous aggregated information to:

  • administer the site, for website analytics and data analysis, for troubleshooting problems, for testing, to improve how the site works, and as part of the process of keeping the site safe and secure.

Security of data

  • We will hold your personal data as securely as is reasonably possible
  • We will not share your personal data with any third party subject to the paragraph below,
  • Your GEDCOM data cannot be accessed by any other user and will only be accessed by ourselves with your express permission, for example to resolve a problem. We will only process your GEDCOM data in relation to the creation of your trees.

Who we share your information with:

We may need to share information to comply with any legal obligation, or to enforce our Terms and Conditions or any other of our agreements or if we have to protect the property rights of Twiggli, our customers or others. For example exchanging information with other companies or organisations for the purposes of fraud protection.


When you create an account you will create a password. You are responsible for keeping this password safe and confidential, you must not share your password with anyone.

Access to your data

We do not view, change, amend, or otherwise interfere with the GEDCOM file that you uploaded onto our site. The GEDCOM file that we hold in our database for you is identical in every way to the file that you uploaded.

If you make manual changes to output fields, or upload images such as avatars or backgrounds as part of the editing process, this will not change the GEDCOM file. You will be able to see changes or uploads as part of the editing process or PFD output. If you re-upload any image it will overwrite the existing image.

You can’t download the GEDCOM file or images from our site that you have previously uploaded. All you can do is delete them by overwriting or re-uploading, or by deleting the associated tree or deleting your account.

Our site may contain links to or from partner websites or affiliates. These websites have their own Privacy Policies and so if you follow these links we cannot accept any responsibility or liability for their policies.
